The activities of Guatemala the IberoAmerican Capital of Culture concluded in November with a prominent figure Elmar Rojas who inaugurated El Itzul Andasolo on Paseo de La Reforma. This monumental sculpture holds deep artistic literary ecological and historical significance enriching the diversity of attractions in that part of the city and the artistic heritage of the city. The renowned artist winner of the IberoAmerican Cristbal Coln Award in 1990 also participated in an exhibition celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Itzul group. This group consisted of artists who attended the professionalization and research workshop he directed in the 1990s as part of the social projection of his artistic work. Lastly accompanied by other young artists he presented his artwork at the latest edition of the Venice Biennale. El Artista magazine documents these historic activities. We are also pleased to introduce Santiago Valladares a unique Salvadoran artist who has already earned a prominent place in Latin American art with his imaginative work that brings contemporary technical and conceptual concerns into a fantastic and timeless dimension.Completing this issue are emerging talents who bolster their skills with admirable dedication to work and research exploring the characteristics of their style and new forms of expression. Gabriela Alfaro exemplifies this attitude with her artwork that merges several laborious techniques to capture the threads that give human meaning to existence. Enrique Cay has discovered new ways to recreate and express spiritual content that remains alive in the traditions and daily life of indigenous communities especially in Sumpango Sacatepquez his hometown. As a counterpoint this issue includes a review of the exhibition by French photographer Yves Trmorin presented at the Alliance Franaise as part of Guatephoto.El Artista magazine thus reaffirms its commitment to readers sponsors and above all the artists of the region.
